Once you have located those three items, you can start to begin your journey on changing a tire. After you car is on a safe piece of flat ground with a rock behind the diagonal tire that is flat, you are able to loosen the lug nuts. If your car has a lock nut on it, you must take the lug nut key and loosen the bolt until it comes off. To loosen the bolts you use the tire iron that came with your car. After the lock nut is off loosen all the other bolts, but do not loosen them all. Place the jack in the correct spot that your owners manual tells you to. If you do not have an owners manual place the jack underneath the steel frame of the vehicle. Place it between the middle of the frame and the tire you are changing. Jack the vehicle up to where the weight of the vehicle is off the tire and rim, but the tire still touching the ground. Once you have completed those few steps you are now able to loosen the lug nuts off the wheel studs. That will allow you to now remove the tire wheel assembly. With the removal of the tire, roll it off the side of the car, out of your way. Now, take your spare tire and place the holes in the rim, onto the wheel studs. You are now able to finger tighten all of the lug nuts down onto the wheel studs. Take the tire iron and tighten the nuts as tight as you can, going in a star pattern if you have five or more wheel studs. If you have four, start with one, tighten it up. The go directly opposite of the one you just tightened. Now, just go clockwise from that and repeat what you just did. Since, all of them are tight going in a circle tightening them as tight as you can. Once, all of the lug nuts are tight you can now lower the car to the ground. Having the care on the ground again, tighten the nuts one last time, just incase. Now that you know how to successfully change a flat tire, if ever needed, you are on the road again. I spare tire does not last along time, so by the time you drive 50 miles on the tire take it into a tire specialist to get it changed.
